Here are some past IELTS Task 2 Writing Topics.  Could you write 250 words in 40 minutes?

It has been proven that smoking kills.  In some countries it has been made illegal for people to smoke in all public places except certain areas.  All countries should make these rules.

Today, food travels thousands of miles from farms to consumers. 

Why does this happen?

In some countries an increasing number of people are suffering from health problems as a result of eating too much fast food.  It is therefore necessary for governments to impose a higher tax on this kind of food.

In many countries an increasing number of people are eating junk food, even though they know it is not good for their health.

Why do you think people do this?

What can be done to reduce the amount of junk food being consumed?

"Prevention is better than cure."  Out of a country's health budget, a large proportion should be diverted from treatment to spending on health education and prevention measures.
