Consider the modern big-city phenomenon, the shopping mall –

than the interests of developers and big business. They are an example of invasive Americanism;
they are dehumanising in that they have displaced the more neighbourly phenomenon
of the corner shop; they encourage people – especially the young – to ‘congregate’.
