Why collocations are important

For your speaking and writing test, collocation is important.

'Collocation' refers to the order that words go together.  In other words, the order sounds 'right' to native English speakers - it's the correct combination of words.

A student wrote:
When she or he is a child, learning is usually fun not a duty. 
The problem is with 'she or he'.  In English the correct collocation is 'he or she'.

There are many collocations.  One website claims there are 150,000!  Let's see if you know these...
