The first part of the TOEIC speaking test requires you to read a text aloud.

Directions: In this part of the test, you will read aloud the text on the screen. You will have 45 seconds to prepare. Then you will have 45 seconds to read the text aloud.

  • You have 45 seconds, so quickly read the text out loud to yourself. Are there any words you don't know?
  • Re-read the text, more slowly this time, again to yourself. Remember the rhythm of English - each word has one primary stress, and intonation is falling at the end of each sentence.
  • Take a deep breath and clear your throat before beginning. A deep breath will help to calm you, and a clear throat will help in your pronunciation.
  • Read the text calmly. Breath at commas and periods.

Here's a sample text:

Vacation time is near! This year, why not take the whole family on a boat trip on Pelican Lake? The lake offers fishing, swimming, canoeing but also water skiing and overnight canoe camping trips. The trips can be organized with a guide or you can take a map, rent one of our canoes, including tents, food, life jackets and sleeping bags, and spend one or two days exploring the water and the woodlands around Pelican Lake. There is no risk, because each canoe has a tracking device. Even if you get lost, we will still be able to find you! Come to Pelican Lake for your summer water fun.
