Today, I read the following introduction in an IELTS Academic Task 1 answer:
Well, the meaning of this word is 'to represent or show something in a picture or story'. Typically, this word is used in connection with art. For example, we might say or write:

The pie charts depict how the Australian population increased in 2016.
The problem with this introduction is the use of the word depict. When do we use depict? Well, the meaning of this word is 'to represent or show something in a picture or story'. Typically, this word is used in connection with art. For example, we might say or write:
- His recent painting depicts the lives of ordinary people living in the 1800s.
- In the movie, she has been able to depict the challenges that young people growing up in the 1960s experienced.
