In the IELTS Academic test, you will use a common number of nouns for describing information in graphs and tables.  These words are:
  1. number
  2. price
  3. percentage
  4. amount
  5. level
  6. total
  7. figure
For example, a normal sentence in an IELTS Academic Task 1 answer might be:
In 2016 the number of fish eaten in European households was high.

Notice how 'number' and 'high' have been underlined?  This is because these two words go together (collocate). Sometimes, students combine the wrong words and this can make the meaning unclear.  For example, one student wrote:

In 2016, dairy exports showed a very large price.

Do you see the problem here?  The problem is we don't write 'large price', we write 'high price'.

Exercise: Match the correct noun(s) with the adjective
