For thousands of years, humans have transmitted information by writing it down. We know that our ancestors drew pictures on cave walls, which developed into writing. Literacy was only possible for wealthy people, though, because writing materials were expensive. Books and cheap paper allowed more and more people to read. The Internet allow people to have quick access to a lot of information, but the Internet is not everywhere in the world, and books are still the most important way to have information.
