What's wrong with this description?

Here's a sentence that a student recently wrote in relation to 'Part-time work' and 'Unemployment'.  
Similar numbers of students followed their careers with part-time work or were unemployed - 17,735 and 16,235 respectively.
There is something significantly wrong with the sentence.  Can you identify the problem?  Write your answer in a comment box below.
