In the IELTS General Training module of the IELTS test, you will be asked to write a letter.  In the TOEIC test you will be asked to read a variety of letters.  One of the points you will be tested on is how suitable your vocabulary is.

What kind of language do you use to a friend versus to a boss?  It's a matter of formal vs informal. You need to know how to do this

Which of the following is a suitable paragraph to a letter to a friend - A or B?

A

I certainly want to sincerely thank you for the exceptional way that you showed due care toward my family last Saturday night.

B

Again, thanks so much for the fantastic time we all had at your place on Saturday night!
