How long does it take to improve my score by 1 band?

I got 6.0 and I need 7.0; how long do I need to study?

Research confirms that it takes approximately 200 hours of classroom/online instruction. Personally, however, I have seen some students take much longer - especially when a student needs to go from a 7.0 to 8.0.

How quickly you achieve your desired band score depends on the following factors:

  • your language learning background/(natural) ability
  • how hard/how much time you study
  • your age
  • the amount of English study you do outside of lesson times

In summary, you should expect to put in about 2 months of guided preparation.  This will give you the best chance at success on test day.
