How many words are there in English?

The English language has a huge vocabulary. The Oxford English Dictionary (OED) lists over 600,000 words, including old and technical words. However, only about 170,000 words are used today. Some words become outdated and are no longer common. If we include these, the number rises to 220,000 words. Other dictionaries, like Merriam-Webster, list about 470,000 words. Most English speakers use only 20,000 to 35,000 words in daily life. New words are added often, especially from technology and social media. English keeps changing, so learning new words is always useful! How many words do you know?
