Students often confuse the words 'most' and 'most of' in English
We recently read an essay with the line, "Most of the young people today use a lot of technology."But this is wrong! It should be, "Most young people today use a lot of technology."
The rule is fairly easy. When you are referring to a large group in general, use most. For example, "Most French wine is consumed in other countries."
When you are referring to a particular case, use most of. Most of the wine made in Bordeaux is exported to other countries.
In this sentence, the wine is specifically wine from Bordeaux.
Use most or most of in the following sentences.
1. I have seen ______________________ the movies in the Marvel series.
2. __________________ them have Nick Fury in them.
3. __________________ people think the Marvel movies are better than the DC movies, except for Batman.
4. _________________ cars manufactured in the United States have an automatic transmission.
5. __________________ adults do not get enough exercise during the day.
6. ___________________ the nurses in this hospital are women.
