How do we use prepositions and verbs?

A student recently said, "Before go to the store, I first went home."

But this is incorrect! After most prepositions, in English we use the -ing form of the verb. So the sentence should be, "Before going to the store, I first went home."

Other examples:

"After reading the article, he decided to change his bank."
"We left without knowing where we were going to go."
"She achieved an excellent result by working harder than anyone else."

Put the verb in the correct form in the following sentences.

1. Without __________________ (look) behind her, she stepped on the airplane and left for university.
2. By ____________________ (speak) German with their mother, the children grew up bilingual.
3. After ___________________ (watch) the Olympic Games on television, he decided to try to become a top athlete.
4. Since ___________________ (arrive) in Rome last year, she has found a job and met some nice people.
5. For _____________________  (behave) properly during the wedding, the children were allowed to go swimming.
