What is an adjective?

An adjective is a word which describes a noun . Look at the examples below:

large company often issues stock.
My manager is tough but fair.
Pollution can be harmful to our health.

The adjectives are largetoughfair, and harmful.

One way to identify an adjective is to put the word in this sentence: The ___________ thing is very _____________.

Using the example sentence, The tough thing is very tough is a correct sentence, so tough is an adjective; while The wall thing is very wall is not a correct sentence, so wall is not an adjective.

Your turn: identify the adjectives in the following sentences.

1. The low price of the product is a result of over-production.
2. It is too hot in my office in July and August.
3. Jane is working on the specifications for a new line.
