A common type of question you may encounter in the IELTS test is where you must Match a Heading to a Paragraph.

Here is an example of what the question looks like:

Questions 15 - 19

Reading Passage 2 has six paragraphs A-F.

Choose the correct heading for sections B-F from the list of headings below.

Write the appropriate numbers i-x in boxes 15-19 on your answer sheet.

List of Headings

maps for seeing into the future
the role of weather in map-making photography
interest grows in map-making
map-making responsible for space programs

Students often find answering Paragraph Heading questions a challenge.  Here is a way to answer which will give you the best chance at success:

1. Read the paragraph in the text (eg: paragraph B ).
2. Decide in your mind what the paragraph is about and come up with a possible heading.
3. Go to the answer options and find something that hopefully matches what you already have in your mind!

Try this: Do other questions in the passage first and do Paragraph Matching questions last.
Answering other questions about the passage will better familiarise you with the text and you should be able to answer the paragraph matching questions faster!
