Read the following paragraph and answer the questions that follow:
Consider the modern big-city phenomenon, the shopping mall – both the street mall and the closed shopping mall.  We hear a good deal about malls and what they have done to our social life, most of it, in my opinion, nonsense.  What they really represent is nothing more than the interests of developers and big business.  They are an example of invasive Americanism; they are dehumanising in that they have displaced the more neighbourly phenomenon of the corner shop; they encourage people – especially the young – to ‘congregate’.
